Robert Barnhill PFP Chartering Ceremony

As a tribute to Past International President Robert Barnhill, Toastmasters in Lubbock, Texas, chartered the Robert Barnhill PFP Toastmasters club on November 8, 2014, and is having their chartering ceremony on Thursday, February 12, 2015.
Jef Conn and Shigang Zhong of the Articulate Toastmasters club sponsored the new club and Ben Mercado of Eloquent Raiders is currently the club’s mentor.
Growing out of the Personal Financial Planning department at Texas Tech University, the club will be a benefit to students and faculty by providing the opportunity to improve both leadership and speaking skills. Financial planning professionals communicate with clients and other professionals on a daily basis. Presentations in front of peers or clients can cause anxiety and paralyzing fears. The Robert Barnhill PFP Club looks to help its members gain confidence and overcome the fear of speaking.

The club’s regular meetings take place on Thursdays from 6:35pm to 7:35pm in room 136 of the Human Sciences Building.
Robert Barnhill was the president of Toastmasters International from July 1996 to June 1997. Prior to that, he’d served in a number of other volunteer offices for the organization. Since that time, Robert has been a friend and mentor to Toastmasters across the world and especially in his hometown of Lubbock, Texas.
Robert is also an adjunct professor in the Personal Financial Planning department where he continues to educate and inspire the next generation of financial planners.
It is Robert’s passion for the Toastmasters organization as well as his dedication to the continued personal growth of its members that led the new club to take on Robert’s name.
